Guest Post - Pestle & Mortor Hyaluronic Acid Vs The Ordinary Skincare Hyaluronic Acid - By Shapes & Shadows Blog

Hello Everyone,
Today's post we are talking Hyaluronic Acid. What's Hyaluronic Acid you may ask?? I think people jump at the though of acid but, it's a carbohydrate occurring naturally throughout the human body.
Although Hyaluronic Acid can be found naturally in almost every cell in the body, it is present in large amounts in the skin tissue with over 50%. It is found in both dermal areas as well as the visible epidermal top layers. Hyaluronic acid in the body benefits a lot of things such as soft tissue function, such as joint support. It also provides moisture, plumpness, giving a youthful appearance to the skin.
Baby's are born with a high level of Hyaluronic Acid hence the plump, dewy skin. Unfortunately the amount of Hyaluronic Acid in skin diminishes with age, most significantly after age 40. The body finds in harder to produce. While you’re never going to get back that perfect baby skin, it is possible to help restore the skin’s Hyaluronic Acid content by using your skincare products / serums that contain Hyaluronic Acid.
By using your serums your skin will see benefits in the form of softer, smoother skin , youthful
looking skin and helping to hydrate. Hyaluronic Acid Serums can be used on all skin types.
Now onto the two products in the hot seat.

Pestle & Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum 30ml (€43)
This Serum comes in a 30ml glass bottle with dropper applicator, which I love so there's no product wasted for €43. It's directions are apply 2 to 4 drops of Pestle & Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Serum over cleansed & toned face before applying other creams. Use AM and PM as part of your skincare routine.
I used this religiously for 5 weeks to really trial it out. I found with the Pestle and Mortar one that once I applied it , my skin was dry and I felt like I needed to apply more. At first I thought maybe it was my skin getting familiar with the product. But after the second week and no change I just left it that this was the way the product worked.

While I did notice my skin brighter in appearance, It definitely didn't leave my skin feeling soft. It left it feeling dry more than anything else. I stuck out using the serum for 5 weeks thinking something would change but sadly it didn't. With so much hype around this product I was very disappointed to say the least and ringing in at €43, it just didn't do it for me.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 - 30ml (€8.10)
This Serum comes in a 30ml bottle again with the dropper applicator, so there's no waste, for €8.10. It's directions also similar to the Pestle & Mortar , applying a few drops before creams AM & PM as part of your skincare routine.

Again I used this serum religiously for 5 weeks and today I have just went into my 6th week and let me just say this stuff is honestly amazing for the price. It didn't leave my skin feeling dry after application. It left my skin feeling super smooth and soft. It also felt lightweight on the skin. I definitely noticed my skin was a lot brighter and softer using The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid and I 100% have continued to use this in my skincare routine.
This just goes to show you Price is not everything. Don't always believe what you see, read. I was always one of these people who always goes for the more expensive skincare just because is was more expensive. But that's not always the case.
Now I know this will be different for everyone but for €8.10 this little gem from TRND Beauty is worth it over the Pestle & Mortar Serum any day.
